Council Approves 2.5 Percent Cost Of Living Wage Adjustment

The Minden City Council approved a 2.5 percent COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) for department heads and staff on a 2-1 vote Monday night.
Voting for the COLA were Councilmen Thompson and Osterbuhr, against Councilman Griess and abstaining from the vote was Councilman Kleen.
The agenda item was tabled from the previous meeting until the official CPI (consumer price indexes) and cost of living figures could be produced by City Administrator Lewis.
The consumer price indexes program produces monthly data on changes in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods and service.
According to the CPI inflation calculator, $1.00 in 2009 has the same buying power as $1.02 in 2010.
During the discussion, Councilman Griess voiced his opinion that the COLA ( cost of living adjustment) should have been included in the budget discussions prior to approving the budget in September.
