Council Approves Water Rate Increase During Special Meeting
The Minden City Council held a special meeting on April 6 to take action on franchise fees and water rates.
Due to the contractual nature of the discussion, the council entered executive session to discuss the City’s franchise fees. Returning to open session, the council approved a motion to not pursue renewal for cable TV franchise.
Moving onto water rates, City Administrator Matt Cederburg informed the council the City has not increased water or sewer rates since January of 2000 and the last electric rate increase was in 2013. As the city’s population has grown and new homes built, the water demand during non-summer months has increased approximately fifty percent in the last ten years. With a continuing increase in population and the future expansion of Minden West Estates II, water demands will continue to grow putting a larger strain on the City’s Water Treatment Plant.
