Council Considers Electric Rates And Transformer Repair

The Minden City Council met December 19 in the council chambers. Mayor Ted Griess began the meeting with a nod to the Minden Volunteer Fire Department whose members selflessly responded to emergencies during the extreme environmental conditions over the weekend. He also reminded the public of the Minden Housing Agency 50 year anniversary celebration to be held the next day.
Stanley Clouse from NPPD attended the meeting to discuss wholesale electric rates and sub-transmission options. NPPD wholesale electric costs were raised by approximately .5% due to transmission line and substation demand. The increase equals about $1,000 per month to the City. Clouse informed the council that NPPD aims to lower their rates in the future. City Administrator Matt Cederburg recommended the City absorb the cost rather than increasing customer rates. No action was taken.
