Mayor Ted Griess made an announcement regarding public comment made during Minden City Council proceedings during the April 5 regular meeting.
Grievances were filed against Griess following the March 15 city council meeting alleging he would not allow public comment and did not allow a council member to submit an agenda item. Both grievances were dismissed but in response to the allegations and the behavior of the council, including the mayor, during public comment at the previous meeting, Griess announced a new procedure will be followed for public comment going forward.
Public comment relating to an agenda item can still be given if it is deemed necessary as stated in the open meetings act. Public comment not related to an agenda item will still be taken before adjournment, but there will be no interaction or comments from the council beyond acknowledgment of the comment. This new procedure will be listed on the agenda as ‘open mic public comments’.
