Kearney Housing Agency Director Carrie Hardage presented Minden Housing Agency’s annual report at the November 18 Minden City Council meeting. In addition to providing information about occupancy, she told the council about a successful pilot program.
Residents had asked for a meal program like the one in Kearney, but space and funding made that difficult. A creative solution was found by paying a volunteer resident to pick up food from the Senior Center to bring to the community room allowing residents to eat together. The program has worked well for the residents.
Following the presentation, the council considered the Minden Housing Agency’s request to waive the ‘payment in lieu of taxes’. The waive is considered annually and Hardage asked the council to consider a permanent waive. The council approved to waive the payment in lieu of taxes for the year and agreed to look at the prospect of a permanent waive in the future.
