The Minden City Council held a special meeting on October 12. Because the issues on the agenda could have a major financial impact on the City, Mayor Ted Griess suggested the council use the meeting for discussion only to allow time for full consideration of the matters.
City Administrator Matt Cederburg opened the discussion regarding Water Treatment Plant capacity. He began by stating the WTP can handle the water demand from an additional 30 homes with some risk, but the City needs to begin planning for a future expansion projected to cost between five to seven and a half million dollars.
The Minden WTP has a 2 million gallons per day capacity. The closer the facility operates at capacity, the more maintenance will be required due to constant use of the plant and wells. The goal is to extend the life of the facility as long as possible while the City plans for an expansion.
