County Board Grants Pioneer Village Hotel Tax Exemption
The Kearney County Board of Equalization voted to grant Pioneer Village Motel and Campgrounds another year of tax exemption at their meeting on Tuesday, April 3.
County Assessor Linda Larsen had intended to deny the exemptions on the grounds that, according to directive from the state, the motel and campgrounds were to be analyzed independently from the museum.
According to Larsen, she saw no educational or charitable use of the motel or campgrounds that would warrant a tax exemption.
Marshall Nelson of Pioneer Village presented the board with an extensive report on Pioneer Village, and informed the supervisors that both the motel and campgrounds had been included in the tax exempt status of the museum for 27 years.
