County Board Sets Preliminary Levy

The Kearney County Supervisors passed a resolution during the Board of Equalization meeting on August 20 to set the preliminary levy at .279170, bringing the county’s tax askings down from last year.
Last year the county levy was .328451. County Assessor Linda Larsen indicated during the meeting that the total valuations in the county were up 10.5% – $136 million more than last year. With valuations up and this year’s county budget down $200,000 from last year, the county’s preliminary levy rate went down as well.
County Clerk Myra Johnson explained to the board that this year’s budget was down partly because more federal money was coming to the county for planned road projects and because the window replacement in the courthouse was completed in last fiscal year.
