The Kearney County Board of Supervisors met April 7 in the courthouse assembly room to maintain social distancing standards. By popular vote, the board determined future meetings will be held via Zoom.
Weed Superintendent Joe Anderson spoke to the supervisors about the annual county cleanup scheduled for May 1-2. Under the current health directives, the event would have to be drastically changed to continue on those dates. The board approved a motion to cancel the cleanup and reschedule the event in the future. No new date was set, but it is expected to be held in the Fall.
New Veteran Service Officer Phil Heun introduced himself to the board. He provided an update of office operations as he settles into the position. The office is now operating the same hours as the courthouse, but face to face interaction is by appointment only as a precaution during the COVID-19 pandemic.
