The Minden Whippet boys basketball team lost a heart-breaker on Feb. 25 in the semifinals of the Class C1-10 subdistrict to Kearney Catholic which ended its 2013-14 season.
The Whippets raced out to a 12-0 lead over the Stars and could not make the lead hold up, dropping a 49-46 decision.
Minden finishes the season at 8 wins and 16 losses.
The Dawgs were led in scoring by Mitchell Muller with a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds followed by Adam DeLaet with 15 points.
The Whippets couldn’t have asked for a better start to the contest racing to a 12-0 lead over the Stars who seemed to have trouble with the Dawgs 1-3-1 pressure defense. Minden made six shots early while getting most of the possession off multiple Star turnovers.
Kearney Catholic started to creep back into the game by the end of the first period, closing on an 10-4 run, with Minden leading 16-10 going into the second quarter.
