Dawgs Fall To Gibbon In C1-9 Subdistrict

The Minden Whippets boys basketball team had its 2012-13 season come to an end on Feb. 19 in the semifinals of the Class C1-9 subdistrict tournament held at Northwest High School in Grand Island.

 

The third-seeded Whippets faced the second-seeded Gibbon Buffaloes with the winner advancing to take on top-seeded Kearney Catholic Stars who escaped St. Paul in overtime.

 

Gibbon was able to pull away in the third period and end the Whippets season at 12 wins and 11 losses with a 53-37 win over Minden.

 

The loss ends Minden’s five year run qualifying for the state boys tournament.

 

The Whippets were led in the season ending loss by RJ Watson with a team-high 16 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jonas Lovin and Isaac Carlson were next in the scorebook with six points each. Carlson added a team-high nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Lovin had four rebounds, two steals and one assist and a block.
