Fall sports are starting and the Dazzlerz of Axtell and Wilcox-Hildreth are gearing up to cheer on their teams. Laurel Thorell began offering cheer and dance classes in Axtell in 2016 and in Wilcox-Hildreth the following year.
“My daughter was going to dance in Axtell for a while and the gal that was doing it there decided she didn’t want to do it anymore. Instead of driving my daughter somewhere else to take dance, I just decided to teach it myself,” Thorell explained. “I teach several group exercise classes at the Y in Holdrege so it fit nicely with what I was already doing and my sister-in-law was doing this exact same thing in several locations. She gave me the structure and what to do so it was much easier to get started because I didn’t have to do it from scratch.”
Classes are available for kindergarten through sixth grade students. Younger kids meet right after school with older kids meeting soon after. Lessons focus on cheers, dance, builds, and tumbles.
