Debra Thramer

Debra Lynn (McBride) Thramer, 61, passed away on Tuesday, Oct.15, 2019 at the Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha. 

Debra was born on March 7, 1958 in Minden, the youngest of six children to James S. and Pamela (Mason) McBride.

She graduated from Minden High School with the Class of 1976. She attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and studied physical education.

Debra was united in marriage on Sept. 10, 1983 to Tim Thramer at St. John’s Catholic Church in Minden.

They lived in Norfolk where she was employed by North East Nebraska Sports. In 1988 they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., where she attained her South Dakota real estate license. This is where their son and only child, Matthew was born. They moved to Burwell in 1992 purchasing a grocery store in partnership with Mike and Deb Svoboda. In 2005 they purchased Thramer’s Food Center in Blue Hill and built a successful grocery, deli and catering business, contributing to and supporting the community.

Deb is a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Blue Hill.

In her youth, Debbie loved and became an avid swimmer, winning many medals and ribbons. She loved boating, skiing, knee boarding and her favorite place on earth was the cabin on Harlan County Lake. She remained active in woman’s softball for many years and in bowling leagues to this day.

Deb is survived by her husband; Tim of Blue Hill; son, Matthew (Madison) Thramer and only grandchild, Blakely Anne; sisters, Karen (Rod) Flesner of North Platte, and Linda (Darrell) Novacek of Norfolk; brothers, Brian McBride of Avondale, Ariz., David McBride of Beaumont, Texas; mother-in-law, Lucille Knievel of Norfolk; sisters-in-law, Annette (Dan) Bentzinger of Olathe, Kan., Lynn (Marc) Dennis of York; brothers-in-law, Ted (Cindy) Thramer of Adel, Iowa, Terry (Penny) Thramer of Norfolk, and many nieces and nephews. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Susan McBride; father-in-law, Gregory Thramer; stepfather-in-law, Joe Knievel; sister-in-law, Ellie McBride; and nephew, Christopher McBride.

Rosary was Oct. 20 at Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill and Mass was Oct. 21 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Blue Hill with the Very Rev. James Schrader officiating.

Burial was in the Blue Hill Catholic Cemetery in Blue Hill.

A memorial has been established to be designated at a later date.
