Deloris Crooks

Deloris M. Crooks, 90, of Minden, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Nebraska Heart Institute in Lincoln. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. The service was live streamed to the funeral home’s Facebook page. Interment was held following services at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Deloris’ honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Deloris M. (Stuhmer) Crooks was born February 7, 1931 near Hildreth to Henry and Anna (Bucks) Stuhmer. She lived in the Hildreth area and graduated from Hildreth High School in 1949.

On November 27, 1949 she married Jack B. Crooks. Their marriage was blessed with five children: three boys and two girls. Jack passed away July 25, 1977. 

Besides raising their five children, she worked at various Minden grocery stores in the meat department including Farmers Union, Wolfe’s IGA, Jack & Jill and retired from 5th Street IGA. 

Deloris lived in her own home until February of 2019 when she became a resident at Bethany Home Assisted Living and remained there until her death. 

She was an active member of the Bethany Lutheran Church of Minden and was very active in the Women’s Circle there. She enjoyed many years of attending her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved collecting bird houses and sharing a good cup of coffee with her many friends. She enjoyed taking several trips in the United States with her two sisters.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Terri) Crooks of Alachua, FL, Steve (Rita) Crooks of Minden, Jill Heathers of Ravenna, and Cally Cramer of Kalamazoo, MI; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Sandi (Steve) Slack and Vonda Fishell; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack; son, Mark; granddaughter, Miranda; brother-in-law, Darrell Fishell and son-in-law, Larry Heathers.
