Doris I. Nielsen, 90 – Minden Resident

Doris I. Nielsen, 90, of Minden, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at CHI Health – Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Duane Duley and Rev. Don Becker officiating. The service will be live streamed to the church’s YouTube page. Interment will be held following services at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Craig Funeral Home in Minden. Memorials in Doris’ honor are kindly suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Bethany Home in Minden. Arrangements are under the care of Craig Funeral Home in Minden. 

Doris Nielsen (Sinsel) was born November 5, 1931 to Ernest and Anna (Albers) Sinsel. She was baptized on November 29, 1931 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden, and she renewed her baptismal vows in Confirmation on May 27, 1945. 

Upon graduation from Minden High School, she went to work at the Kearney County Extension Service. On May 27, 1951 she was married to Severin N. Nielsen in Minden. In March 1960, Doris started working for Selective Service System and continued working there until March 1976. In November 1976 she went to work for Rockwell International where she continued until June 1977 at which time, she was rehired to the Federal Service with Farmers Home Administration (USDA). Doris continued to work for USDA until her retirement in November 1994. Doris was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Volunteer Service League (Meals on Wheels) and National Association for Active and Retired Federal Employees. 

Those left to cherish her memory include: her daughters, Sandra and husband, Mike, Murphy of Belleville, NJ and Linda and husband, Don, Schwenka of Minden, NE; Grandchildren, Tess and husband, Jesse, McKinney of Eagle, NE and Whitney and husband, Taylor, Maulsby of Minden, NE; Great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Dillyn Maulsby; sister-in-law, Marilyn Nielsen; as well as a host of extended relatives and close friends. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Severin, on May 29, 1979, her parents and siblings.
