Driver Sets Record, Benson Medals In Three At Lexington
The Minden Whippets and Axtell Wildcats track and field teams participated on Thursday in the 2011 Don Bader Invitational held at Lexington High School.
Minden’s Craig Driver continued to ascend to new heights as the senior set his second school record of the season.
Driver bested his previous MHS mark of 15’4″ by improving that record by an inch and a half on his way to clearing 15’5.5″ which won the gold medal besting the field by almost a foot.
Adding to the Whippet boys team effort was the silver medal winning 4×800 relay with team members Carter Yelken, Thomas Sinsel, Chris Shelton and Rory Bruning in a time of 8:45.17.
The Axtell boys team was led by junior Brandon Benson. Benson medaled in all three individual events, starting by placing fourth in the 100-meters in a time of 11.79.
Benson added a bronze in the 200-meters in a time of 23.33 and finished with a silver in the 400-meters in 53.98.
The Lady Whippets were led by their two relay teams. The Minden 4×800 relay team of Cassandra Choquette, Emily Nelson and Jamie and Brooke Kissinger placed third in a time of 10:48.06.
