Dwight A. Thomsen, 68, of Overland Park, KS passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at his home. Celebration of life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Hunzeker and PMA Julie Schmidt officiating. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation as the family has honored Dwight’s wishes to be cremated. Memorials in Dwight’s honor are kindly suggested to Bethany Home in Minden or to Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden. Craig Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Dwight was born June 11, 1951 to Wisthi and Charmaine Thomsen in Kearney, NE. He attended Axtell High School and graduated from Minden High School in 1969. After graduating, Dwight attended Brown Institute School of Broadcasting in Minneapolis, MN. He worked for several years as an on air personality in the Minneapolis and Dubuque areas. Dwight started a snack business that supplied truck stops and gas stations with meats, cheese and other goodies all throughout the Midwest. Dwight’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to buy a Chem-Dry and floor maintenance franchise with a longtime friend. In the mid-1990’s, Dwight became an Insurance Broker for Principal Financial Group, and later a Mortgage Broker for several years. On May 23, 2008 Dwight married Olene Didrickson in Kansas City, MO.
He is survived by his loving wife Olene; his mother, Charmaine Thomsen; his children, Dane Thomsen and wife Chastady; Brooke Thomsen; two grandsons, Clark and Isaac Thomsen; four brothers, Dr. Eric Thomsen and wife Mary; Brian Thomsen; Kirk Thomsen and wife Marian; Kent Thomsen and wife Alice.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wisthi Thomsen.
