The pest is coming, the pest is coming. We have been hearing this about the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) for at least five years. It has not been found in Nebraska yet. (The Nebraska Forest Service thinks it is here it just hasn’t been found yet.) It was found 30 miles east of Nebraska in St. Joseph, Missouri and Red Oak, Iowa two years ago. It has usually been in an area for about three years before it is found and migrates 15 to 20 miles per year so possibly it is here.
If it is not here yet why worry about it? Now is the time to come up with a plan of action. When EAB gets to Minden it will be like when Dutch Elm Disease was here and we will lose a large number of trees in a short number of years.
