Economic Development and Chamber Bestow Community Awards

Four community awards were given out last Friday night during MAAD Days.  Three awards were given out by the Minden Economic Development Advisory Council for Manufacturer of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, and Friend of Minden and the Minden Chamber of Commerce awarded an Agricultural Leader Award.   These awards are given out to show Minden’s support of local businesses and residents.  
Although Minden has many well deserving recipients for the Manufacturer of the Year award, receiving the award this year was Minden Machine Shop.  They were recognized as Manufacturer of the Year for their economic growth, leadership in the community and progressive attitude.  Minden Machine Shop, a Minden manufacturer since 1985, designs and manufactures farm equipment. They currently employ 43 full time individuals.  Most recently in 2009, Minden Machine Shop received a community development block grant for expansions to their company and created 16 new full time positions.
Entrepreneur of the Year is an award designed to recognize the important role entrepreneurs play in the community.  This award recognizes businesses or individuals for economic growth, creativity, community involvement and leadership.  The Entrepreneur of the Year award was given to Burchell’s White Hill Farm House Inn, a Minden business since 2007.
