Wilcox-Hildreth was on the road for the final regular season game and was defeated 42-13 by McPherson County/Stapleton (aka Sandhills Valley) at Stapleton on October 25. The loss leaves the Falcons at 4-4 but the season continues for at least one more week as W-H qualified for the six-man playoffs as the number 14 seed out of 16 teams. In a bit of irony, the Falcons first round opponent is the same as a year ago, 8-0 Creek Valley (Chappell/Lodgepole), only this time W-H will be the road team. The contest is scheduled for Friday, November 1 at 6:30 Central Time (5:30 Mountain Time) at Chappell.
The Falcons’ injury list was at its most critical juncture of the fall, with three starters unable to play.
Sandhills Valley took a 14-0 lead after the first quarter with a safety and touchdown passes of seven and nine yards. Then in the second period the Mavericks increased their lead to 27-0, scoring on runs of ten and five yards plus one conversion run.
