Falcons Can’t Hold Lead, Fall To SEM

The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons boys basketball team made a valiant effort, leading the entire game until the final few minutes, but came up short against S-E-M in the first round of the D2-7 basketball subdistrict held on Feb. 21 at Elm Creek.
The Mustangs edged the Falcons 58-52. W-H ends the season with 2 wins and 17 losses.
Clay Blank got W-H going early in the opening period by nailing two threes. Five Falcons scored helping them to a 16-10 advantage after one quarter. Clint Gardels’ seven points paced the Falcons’ 12-11 edge in the second frame and W-H was on top 28-21 at halftime.
The Falcons led 30-21, their largest second half margin, before S-E-M chipped away. A Mustang trey at the buzzer trimmed the Falcons’ lead to 37-34 at the close of the third quarter. Blank scored five in the period.
