The Axtell Wildcats and Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons competed on April 30 in the rain delayed 2012 Fort Kearny Conference track and field meet held in Wilcox.
The Axtell boys tied the Amherst Broncos for the FKC boys trophy as both teams scored 86 points. Wilcox-Hildreth finished in ninth place in the team standings with 24 points.
In the boys competition, Axtell senior Brandon Benson has returned fully from an injury and seems to be ready to go heading into districts and state. Benson won three gold medals in the pole vault (14’2.5″) while also taking the 100-meters (11.1) and 200-meters (23.1) and earning a silver in the 400-meters (52.8).
Other Cats who faired well in Wilcox were Jake Jelden and Jordan Miller taking third and fourth in the 400-meters in times of 53.9 and 54.0. The Cats 4×800 relay comprised of Shafer Fox, Jake Anderbery, Jelden and Dakota Klingsporn were second place finishers in a time of 9:27.2.
