Falcons Come Up Short Against Ansley In D2-4 District Final, 44-37

The Wilcox-Hildreth Lady Falcons girls basketball team had a magical run to get into the Class D2-4 district final on Friday at Kearney Catholic and take on the state-rated Ansley Warriors with a berth in the 2011 Girls State Tournament on the line for the winner.
The Falcons gave it everything they had taking the game down to the wire. Ansley and Wilcox-Hildreth were tied at 37-37 with under two minutes to play but the Warriors were able to come up with two big defensive plays to pull away down the stretch and earn a hard-fought 44-37 victory.
The Lady Falcons season comes to an end with a record of 13 wins and 11 losses.
First-year coach Brent Hinrichs couldn’t have asked for a better start to the district final than what he got from his team. Things started going the way of W-H on the opening possession as Morgan Farley got fouled and tossed the ball to the rim and it went in. She made the free throw and the Falcons led 3-0.
Ansley answered with a layup to cut the lead to 3-2 but the Falcons started to heat up from the outside. Olivia Adam started the W-H run with a jumper followed by a three-pointer by Jana Wilson to push the lead to 8-2. Adam hit another shot followed by Michaela Hinrichs knocking down a three-pointer. The Falcons led 13-2 with just over three minutes left in the first.
Ansley closed out the first on its own 7-0 run to cut the Falcons lead to 13-9 going into the second.
