Wilcox-Hildreth was in need of a homecoming game on September 5 after the scheduled opponent, Franklin, had to do a covid-cancel. Santee, on the banks of Lewis and Clark Lake in northeast Nebraska, agreed to come to Hildreth to give the Falcons a contest. It worked out well for the locals as W-H defeated Santee 48-27 and in doing so saw their record rise to 3-1. W-H plays at state-rated Red Cloud on October 2.
The Falcons bolted out to a 22-0 lead after one quarter on the strength of two Gaige Ritner TDs (12-yard run, 34-yard pass from Triston Nicks), a Nicks 35-yard TD run and two conversion kicks by Gavin Sheen.
The teams traded a pair of touchdowns each in the second period. W-H struck first on Sheen’s 20-yard run. Santee answered with a seven-yard run and a conversion run. Nicks then got a seven-yard TD run and the conversion run. Santee responded with a 19-yard run and a conversion run and at halftime the Falcons led 35-14.
