Falcons Edge SEM, 49-48 Advance To District Final
The Wilcox-Hildreth Lady Falcons are one victory away from punching their first-ever ticket to the 2011 Nebraska Girls State Basketball Tournament after winning the Class D2-7 subdistrict championship over the Loomis Wolves.
The Falcons (13-10) advance to the Class D2-4 district final to be played on Friday, Feb. 25 at Kearney Catholic High School at 7 p.m. The Falcons opponent is the Ansley Warriors, who come into the contest with a record of 22 wins and 2 losses. The winner will be in the D2 field for the state tournament which begins on Thursday, March 2 in Lincoln.
The second-seeded Falcons magical season marches on after defeating top-seeded Loomis for the second time this season, earning a 64-52 victory.
Olivia Adam and Michaela Hinrichs were big reasons why. Adam poured in a career-high 22 points, making eight field goals including four three-pointers. Hinrichs recorded a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds and chipped in with four assists and two steals. Jana Wilson had eight assists and four points.
The Falcons seized control of this game early on, building a nine point bulge after one period of play, 16-7.
