Falcons Fall To Hornets In D2-7 Subdistrict Final

Wilcox-Hildreth had lost to Loomis twice in January but when the stakes were at their highest the Falcons prevailed in the third matchup with a 43-38 win over the Wolves in the D2-7 subdistrict semifinal on February 23 in Minden. The Falcons, now 14-8, moved into the subdistrict finals contest against Giltner.
W-H never trailed in the contest after an early 2-2 tie. Lance Aspegren knocked down two first period three pointers, Garrett Ortgiesen hit one trey and Caleb Springer scored five points in the quarter. The Falcons had some foul concerns as three starters all were whistled for two opening period fouls. W-H led 14-7 after one quarter.
Springer scored the Falcons first two buckets in the second period, both off nice assists from Matt Hinrichs. A Hinrichs’ three pointer gave W-H its largest first half lead at 21-10 at 4:16. Hinrichs then got a putback bucket in the final minute giving W-H nine points in the period. Loomis scored eight and at halftime the Falcons were up 23-15.
