Falcons Open Spring Season At UNK Indoor
The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons boys and girls track and field teams opened their 2012 season competing on March 17 at the University of Nebraska-Kearney Indoor Invitational held at Cushing Coliseum.
“This meet was almost a pre-state meet,” stated W-H coach Ken Meyers. “Many athletes that placed at state last year were at the indoor meet. I felt we performed well. Times may not have been what was hoped for, but looking at past indoor results, they were very good. It was good to see where we are at.”
The Falcons boys team finished in tenth place with 10 points. Twin Loup won the meet with 93 followed by South Loup with 66 and Cambridge 51.
Two Falcons were double medals winners accounting for all the team points. Michael Nelson placed fourth in high jump (6’0″) and sixth in the triple jump (38’9″). Ben Harms was fourth in the pole vault (12’0″) and sixth in the high jump (5’10”).
The Lady Falcons placed 13th overall in the team standings with 12 points. Bertrand won the girls division with 74 followed by Eustis-Farnam with 44 and Ansley-Litchfield with 42.
Three Falcons scored points for the girls total. Caitlin Hinrichs was a bronze medalist in the 3,200-meter run in 15:09.59 while Shelby Aspegren was fourth in the 400-meters in 1:07.27. Emilee Pool was fifth in the 55-meters in 7.86.
