Felony Charges Filed In December Death Of Four Year Old Boy

Three Minden adults were arrested and taken into custody Thursday in connection with the December 2009 death of a four-year- old boy from rural Kearney County.
Charles Turnell, 37, Sharon Turnell, 36, and Katie Payne (a.k.a. Katie Scoville), 19, were arrested and charged with felony aiding and abetting child abuse resulting in death and being an accessory to a felony in the December 22, 2009 death of Landon Payne in Kearney County court.
Katie Payne (Scoville) is the daughter of Sharon Turnell.
Aiding and abetting child abuse resulting in death is a Class IB felony carrying a maximum penalty of life imprisonment and a minimum of 20 years imprisonment.  Accessory to a felony, a Class III felony, carries a maximum penalty of up to 20 years imprisonment, $25,000 fine or both and a minimum of 1 year imprisonment.
