First Bank Seniors End Year In Area Tournament

The Kearney County First Bank Seniors had been on somewhat of a roll entering the Area 6 Legion Baseball Tournament in Holdrege. First Bank had won seven of their last nine leading up to the tournament and were hoping to carry that momentum into some post-season success.
Losing a pair of close games sandwiched around a win, First Bank went 1-2 in the tournament and were eliminated ending the season with a 12-14 record.
In the first contest on July 19, Holdrege downed First Bank 3-1. The game was scoreless through three and a half innings until First Bank broke through in the bottom of the fourth. Isaac Carlson was hit by a pitch, stole second, advanced to third and then scored on a wild pitch.
That one-run lead held up for another inning as neither team scored in the fifth.
Holdrege came up with three unearned runs in the sixth and then held off a bases-loaded rally by First Bank in the seventh to post the opening-round win.
First Bank was limited to three hits — a single by Cody Nickel in the second and singles by Trevor Jacobsen and Jordan Miller in the seventh.
