A good start to the contest and holding the lead after three innings did not turn into a win for the Kearney County First Bank Seniors at Kearney on June 27 as Kearney got the victory 14-6. First Bank’s record dips to 2-12.
In the top of the first, Zach Hinrichs reached on an error (and was pinch run for by Aaron Skaggs) then back-to-back walks to Marshall Chasek and Jake Kuehn loaded the bases. Ben Edgecombe promptly cleared the bases with a three-run double and he scored a few pitches later on a passed ball. First Bank was up 4-0.
Kearney got three runs in the bottom of the second then both teams scored one run in the third to make it 5-4 First Bank after three. First Bank’s run was produced by Chasek reaching on an error and advancing on a fielder’s choice from Kuehn. JC McDowell drove in Chasek with a single.
