An ordinance closing the cemetery and city parks from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. was brought to the Minden City Council for consideration during the July 20 meeting. Police Chief Brad Butler brought the matter to the council.
The ordinance would give the police department legal grounds to remove individuals from those locations in the overnight hours. Butler told the council he believes this ordinance can help cut down on thefts and vandalism.
The council has discussed curfew and overnight closures of the cemetery and parks for several years. No ordinance was previously passed due to concerns about the ability to enforce them.
