Galen A. Bunger, 70, of rural Upland passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at his home. A celebration of life open house will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 9, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth. There will be no visitation. Memorials in Galen’s honor are kindly suggested to the family for later designation. Craig Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Galen was born on May 6, 1951 in Upland to Alvin and Norma L. (Scharff) Bunger. He grew up in the Hildreth and Upland area, attending school at Upland and graduating from Hildreth High School. He continued his education at Central Community College where he studied Agronomy.
Galen was united in marriage to Amy P. Greener on September 5, 1996 in Hildreth Nebraska and Galen was blessed with four step-children: Gary Miller, Ian Jackson, Dean Jackson, and Jason Miller, whom he treated as his own. The family made their home in Upland where Galen worked the family farm.
He enjoyed playing pitch, reminiscing with friends and family about history and telling stories. Galen loved spending time with his family and friends. He had a love/hate relationship with farming and his cattle.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Amy Bunger of rural Upland; sons, Gary Miller of Upland, Ian Jackson of Modesto CA, Dean Jackson of Kearney, and Jason Miller of Upland; grandchildren, Terry Miller, Andrea Pollock, Vince Miller, Hayley Baesl, Alexis Worman, Navaeh Jackson, Jazmine Jackson, Alex Miller, Zoe Dahlgren, and Chantell; 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Valerie Hogeland of York; brother, Gary and wife Mary Bunger of Hildreth; aunt, DetAnn Walker of Akron, CO; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Thomas Hogeland, and niece, Shelly Egenberger.
