Heartwell Post Office Has New Hours After Meeting

The postal customers of the Heartwell Post Office will have a change headed their way after a patron meeting at the Heartwell Community Building on Thursday.

United States Postal Service Manager Of Post Office Operations Ed Goforth from Grand Island conducted the meeting of around 11 concerned citizens to inform them of the survey results of the 110 postal customers.

The recommendation from the USPS is for the Heartwell Post Office to go down from an eight hour office day to a four hour office with window service for one hour on Saturday.

There were 50 completed surveys returned with 42 in favor of realignment of hours. Two patrons wanted delivery option which would have closed the office and mail would have been delivered on the route by carrier.

Goforth informed the audience that the proposed hours for Heartwell are being cut due to a lack of volume of postal service and pieces of mail in the office.
