Holdrege Edges Minden, 56-50
The Minden Whippets boys basketball team suffered a close loss to its long-time rival, the Holdrege Dusters, on Friday in Holdrege.
The Class C-1 state rated Whippets nearly pulled off a fourth quarter comeback but fell to the Class B Dusters by six, 56-50. The Dawgs record now stands at 12 wins and 2 losses going into the Southwest Conference tournament this week.
The Holdrege (7-6) defense gave the Minden offense fits all night long in a rugged and rough game before a capacity crowd at the Duster Dome.
Carson Blum and Derek Kissinger were the only Whippets in double figures against Holdrege. Blum scored a team-high 25 points and four assists, with 17 coming in the second half. Kissinger added 13 points while Ben Petersen chipped in with eight and six rebounds.
