With the assistance of his mother, Jenny, Nathan Hultquist of Heartwell began backyard beekeeping in 2020. The two have enjoyed learning about bees and creative ways to use the products created by their colonies. Their hobby started with a simple interest in the insects themselves.
“I was curious how they work,” Nathan said.
“And we have a lot of space out here. We thought this would be a good activity to get into given where we’re at,” Jenny added. “We have this great space that is perfect because they’re so protected. In the spring it’s completely covered in flowers. We completely redid it as a pollinator patch. It’s just gorgeous with the flowers and the bees out here.”
