JML Introduces 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Jensen Memorial Library is encouraging parents to foster a love of reading in their young children by participating in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. Introduced at Jensen Memorial Library in November, several participants have begun their journey to reading 1,000 books before kindergarten and there is still time for other pre-kindergarten youth to reach their goal as well.

The concept behind the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is simple: read to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler with a goal to have read 1,000 books before they begin kindergarten. Any child from birth until they enter kindergarten is eligible to participate in this free program. Getting started is as easy as reading with your child and keeping track of the titles you read in a spiral notebook, reading log, or online. Books read to the participant by siblings, teachers, and other family members can also be included in the record.
