Former Minden resident Dr. John Cronin passed away January 26, 2021 at his home in Greeley, Colorado.
John was born and raised on the family farm northwest of Minden. John was an exceptional student graduating from Minden High School in 1947. He furthered his education receiving many degrees; the highest being a Doctorate in Rehabilitation awarded by the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado.
John proudly served his country as an United States Marine during the Korean War. John’s concern for returning injured servicemen shaped the rest of his life. His career and personal life always centered around his wish to help his fellow man.
John’s professional career began working for the State of Colorado as a Vocational Rehabilitation Supervisor eventually overseeing the Northeastern Colorado office.
John began teaching at UNC and after receiving his Doctorate became a tenured professor. After taking early retirement John was offered a position with the Villa working with their clients. He ended his career with an independent vocational rehabilitation office. During John’s career he received many awards including a National Citation from the National Rehabilitation Counseling Association and the Sertoma – Service to Man Kind Award.
After retiring John enjoyed traveling, refinishing furniture and serving as a care clown with Polly. John and Polly spent many hours volunteering at the former Northern Colorado Medical Center performing for patients.
John is survived by his wife Polly Cronin, daughter and son in law Cheryl and Mark Larsen; son and daughter in law Brian and Jennifer Cronin; daughter Melinda Cronin and son and daughter in law Eric and Crystal Cronin. And two grandsons Brice Cronin (Brian and Jennifer) and David Cronin (Eric and Crystal).
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
