The Minden Country Club hosted the 2011 Junior Golf program beginning June 9 and running through July 7. Steve Exstrom and Eric Christensen served as instructors providing lessons in swing mechanics, chipping, putting and course play. Thirty-two boys and girls ranging from ages eight to 14 participated in four divisions. The newest, least-experienced players played in the beginners group followed by more experienced 3-hole, 6-hole and 9-hole ability divisions.
Each Thursday participants had an hour-long lesson followed by regular course play. High school varsity players and parents served to chaperone the kids while they played. The final two weeks were devoted to a two-day stroke play tournament.
All Junior Golfers received a t-shirt, complimentary golf balls, tees and divot tools and the top three places in each division received medals for their play. Everyone enjoyed pizza at the conclusion of the Junior Golf Tournament.
