The Kearney County AgVenture Juniors entered the Class B Area 6 tournament at Cozad as the second seed with a record of 9-5. Through three games of the double elimination competition their hopes for an area championship were still alive as they beat Holdrege in game one, lost to Broken Bow in game two and came back to defeat Holdrege again in game three.
In the first game on July 12, AgVenture downed Holdrege 5-2. Starting pitcher Matt Exstrom held Holdrege scoreless for six innings before yielding a couple of runs in the seventh. Exstrom struck out 14 while walking three and allowing just three hits. Sturgis Hanson relieved to record the final out in the seventh.
AgVenture scored two in the first on four hits–a single by Journey Ericsson, an RBI single by Jonathan Miller scoring Ericsson, a single by Hanson and an RBI single by Keller Koch which scored Miller.
