Kidney Early Detection Screening Is Jan. 11 At Kearney County Hospital

The Nebraska Kidney Association will offer a free kidney disease screening on January 11th at the Kearney County Community Health Services , 727 E. 1st Street.  
This free screening starts at 7 a.m. and continues until 11 a.m., or until 100 people have been screened.   Anyone 18 years of age or older may participate but those with a history of high blood pressure and/or diabetes are encouraged to be tested.  
The screening includes blood pressure & weight measurements plus blood and urine tests for signs of diabetes and kidney disease.  The tests will measure blood glucose levels; hemoglobin; a full Lipid panel and renal panel.  Fasting is not a requirement before these tests but is preferred.  
Participants will be contacted by the Nebraska Kidney Association with results of the tests.
The free health screening program is called Kidney Early Detection Screening (K-EDS) and is offered free by the Nebraska Kidney Association primarily for individuals at increased risk of developing kidney disease.
“One in nine Americans either suffers from kidney disease or is at risk for developing it,” according to Tim Neal, CEO of the Nebraska Kidney Association.  “Our goal with the KEDS screening is to identify at-risk individuals and abate the growth of the disease or delay the need for dialysis.
