The first round of the Class C State Golf Championships was played Tuesday, May 23 on a very cool, overcast and windy day at the Meadowlark Hills Golf Course in Kearney. The temperatures were hovering in the low to mid 50s with winds out of the northwest at 20-30 mph with gusts to 40. Minden was represented by senior Jake Kuehn.
Kuehn qualified for the state meet by finishing in the runner-up position at the C-4 district meet one week earlier. Kuehn’s district score of 76 meant that he was in the second to last foursome of the tourney with other players that had scores similar to Jake’s in their respective districts.
Kuehn’s round of 83 had some definite bright spots and a couple of low points. He started out the day bogeying the first hole of play and then coming back with a nice birdie on the second. Jake had bogeys on holes 4 and the very tough, par-3, 5th hole. A birdie on six left Jake at 2-over for the round.
