La Fern “Fern” Lindsey, 90, of Grand Island passed away on Sunday, April 25, 2021.
Services were held at 10:30 am on Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo officiated. Burial followed at Grand Island City Cemetery.
Memorials are designated to the family.
Fern was born on September 25, 1930 at Glenvil, NE, daughter of Roy and Agnes (Rasmussen) Van Boening.
Fern was raised in Oregon, California and Illinois before returning to Nebraska where she graduated from Big Springs. She graduated from Hastings Beauty Academy and put her education to good use and was a wonderful beautician before working at the Ordinance Plant, Plastic Plant in Alda, Interstate Holiday Inn and then the Grill at K-Mart. Fern helped many households in Grand Island not only as a housekeeper but also assisting with mending.
On May 20, 1949 she was united in marriage to James A. Kendall. The couple made their home in Emmitt and then Grand Island.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth (Sandra) Kendall of Grand Island, Randall (Pamela) Kendall of Grand Island, Duane (Carol) Kendall of Hot Springs, AK, Mitch (Julie) Kendall of Chapman and Brenda (Tony) Smith of Hampton; four step children; sister, Kathleen (Dennis) Gingrich of Gering; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Agnes Van Boening husbands, James A. Kendall and Warren Lindsey Sr.; brothers, Eugene and Darryl.
