Lady Cats Come Up Short In FKC Finals Against Overton

The Axtell Lady Cats volleyball team was making its seventh straight appearance in the Fort Kearny Conference finals. The second-seeded Lady Cats would be denied an FKC title by the top-seeded Overton Eagles on Thursday in the finale of the FKC tournament held in Pleasanton.
Overton was able to rally to defeat the Lady Cats in three sets by scores of 25-18, 18-25 and 21-25. Axtell now is 14-5 heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
Lexi Klauz-Rohde led the Cats with a team-high nine kills against the Eagles. Hailey Kring recorded eight kills followed by Kaylee Becker with seven, Sierra Robinson five, Sara Fecht two and Gabby Knoble one.
Knoble was 65/66 setting for Axtell with 21 assists. Jordan Miller added six assists while Fecht contributed four.
Leading servers for the Cats were Knoble, Klauz-Rohde, Kit Wells and Miller all with one ace server.
Wells picked up a team-high nine digs in the loss while Gabbie Nickel had five and Miller and Knoble each collected four. Becker, Klauz-Rohde and Robinson each registered an ace block in the final.
The Axtell Lady Cats played on Oct. 11 in Pleasanton in the semifinals of the FKC tournament. Standing in the Cats way was the third-seeded Loomis Wolves.
