Lady Cats Win D1-9 Subdistrict To Advance To District Final

The Axtell Lady Cats are headed to the Class D1-5 district final with a berth in the 2010 Girls Volleyball Tournament set for Nov. 11-13 in its new home of Grand Island/Hastings.
The D1-9 subdistrict’s top-seeded Lady Cats took care of business on Nov. 2 defeating the second-seeded Alma Cardinals in the subdistrict final in Holdrege winning in four sets by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 12-25 and 25-19.
Axtell (26-2) will face off against the Bertrand Vikings the D1-10 subdistrict champion (26-5) in the D1-5 final on Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. in Elm Creek.
The Lady Cats and Vikings met earlier this season with Bertrand giving Axtell one of its two losses, the other came to Class C-1 rated Minden.
The Cats had great play from its attackers as all four reached double-figures in kills.
Hailey Kring led the way with a team-high 18 kills on 38/41 attempts followed by Shala Nelson with 14 kills on 29/35 chances; Mariah Popple was 23/28 with 12 kills and Lexi Klauz-Rohde was 24/30 with 10 kills.
