Lady Falcons’ Historic Season Comes to an End at State

Wilcox-Hildreth’s historic run ended in the first round of the D2 state tournament as Shelton downed the Fal- cons 52-22 at the Devaney Center on March 2. A look a Wil-Hil’s 18-8 final record indicates a school record for one season wins and, of the eight losses, four were to state tourney qualifiers (two each to Shelton and S-E-M) and the other four to district finalists (Amherst twice, Alma and Overton). A first-time state qualification for the Falcon girls makes it a season to remember and be proud of.

Shelton’s pressure defense made it difficult for the Falcons to get into any offensive flow and some turn- overs led to easy transition buckets for the Bulldogs.

Madison Bunger and Emma Donley each hit a field

goal in the first quarter and Wil-Hil trailed by just two, 4-6, but then Shelton went on an 11-0 run spanning the first and second periods.

Free throws from Donley, Madison and Sarah Jensen were the Falcons’ only points of the second quarter as the Bulldogs went into halftime up 25-7.
