Lady Falcons Host D2-8 Subdistricts, Split Games

By virtue of their outstanding regular season, the Wilcox-Hildreth girls earned the right to host the D2-8 subdistrict.

The Falcons defeated Brady in the opening round 46- 14 on February 14, extending the school record for one season wins at 17, and lost a heartbreaker to Overton 33-35 on February 16.

Unlike the old days before the point system, in which a loss in district play would mean ‘season over’, Wil-Hil had accumulated a high enough point average to be included among the final sixteen teams that were then re-seeded 1 through 16 to compete in eight district final contests. The eight winners of the district finals advance on the the state tournament. The Falcons, as the seventh seed, normally would have hosted their opponent but, because that opponent is Hay Springs, a northwest Nebraska school, the two teams will meet in Ogallala on Friday, February 24.

Against Brady, Wil-Hil started a bit slow but it was full bore ahead in the second and third quarters. The Falcons led 25-7 at halftime and 39-10 after the third period.
