Local Bowlers Place Second At 2010 Nationals
For the past ten years, the Minden travel league bowling team has bowled at Nationals, however this year was different. Not only did the team place second in the national rankings, but five of the ladies placed in singles, doubles and all events. A spectacular showing for a team from a small town in central Nebraska.
“It was so exciting,” said Glenda Jacobsen, “We have gone to nationals for the last ten years but never placed. We were actually in first place for three weeks, until a team from California knocked us out of the number one spot. As a team we won $3,500 in prize money.”
The team bowled nine games in two days while competing in El Paso, Texas. Three games for the team division and six games for singles and doubles.
Sherry Merrill placed in singles, Janet Kile and Donna Dyke placed in doubles and Nancy Klahn and Glenda Jacobsen placed in singles, doubles and all events.
“We were so lucky to have placed in all those events,” said team captain Nancy Klahn. “It was so nice for Auto Way bowl too. “The Maxons have been so supportive, they pay our sponsorship so we can compete at nationals.”
The travel league team, “Have Ball Will Travel” competes on the third Sunday of the month from September through April, traveling around the state to different bowling alleys.
Nancy Klahn and Glenda Jacobsen have bowled on the travel league team for 28 years.
