Looking Back At 2013: A Year In Review

The Kearney County Health Services Board of Trustees discussed options for repairing the roof on the hospital. Beckenhauer Construction had researched costs to repair the roof on older parts of the hospital. Initial estimates would run around $75,000 for the roofer’s expense with possibly another $55,000 needed for mechanical costs to move the HVAC systems and duct work during the re-roofing process. The board delayed action and asked Beckenhauer to research other less expensive options to moving the HVAC systems for the roofing process.
Kearney County Sheriff and the Nebraska State Patrol investigated the death of a four month old Wilcox infant on Sunday, April 24. Foul play was not suspected.
Two teams from both Minden and Axtell schools competed at the Nebraska Future Problem Solvers State Bowl held in Kearney. Axtell’s Senior Division team won the Big Ole Wagon Wheel sweepstakes trophy. Kari Lundeen of Axtell won 1st place in individual competition Senior Division earning her way to the 2013 Future Problem Solvers International Competition in Indiana in June.

Minden Public School Board of Education held a facility meeting on April 30 to discuss plans that the DLR Group has been working on for the proposed new school. DLR presented two options to a small group of citizens attending the meeting. One plan was a $31.8 million project to build a new high school and elementary school and the other plan was a $26 million project to build only a new high school.
