Marcie Holmes
Marcie Holmes, 68 of Kearney passed away May 3rd at her home surrounded by her family after several months’ battle with a brain tumor. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at the Merryman Performing Arts Center in Kearney. The family will host a visitation Tuesday, May 10th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Iain Nicolson Audubon Center at Rowe Sanctuary.
Marcelyn Sue Norseen Holmes was born September 25, 1953 in Minden, Nebraska to Dale and Shirley (Jorgensen) Norseen. She was raised in Minden and received her education from Minden High School graduating with the class of 1971. Marcie earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Kearney State College, a nursing degree from Bryan School of Nursing and later earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling. On July 25, 1978, she was united in marriage to Douglas Holmes at Windmill State Park in Gibbon, NE. During her marriage she was blessed with four children. Marcie worked for many years as a nurse at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney in several departments, and ended her career as a nurse and therapist at Richard Young Hospital. She was honored for her service with the Planetree Award for Excellence in Patient Care.
Marcie enjoyed reading, gardening, baking, flowers, bird watching, bicycling and being outdoors. She was a gracious host and loved spending time with her family. Marcie shared much of her spare time bettering her community.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Holmes of Kearney; children, Will (Libby) Holmes of Lincoln, Andy (Heather) Holmes of Denver, Libbie (Sev) Martin of Denver and Sam Holmes of Chicago; grandson, Camden Holmes; sister, Tammy (Bruce) Peterson of Minden; brother, Brent Norseen of Sioux Falls, SD; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Marcie was preceded in death by her parents.
