When Minden Boy Scout JC McDowell began thinking about what service project he could complete to earn his Eagle Award, he looked to his other interests for inspiration. As a baseball player and member of the Minden High School Tech Club, he soon determined he would use his skills to make visiting spectators more comfortable at Legion Baseball Field.
“I noticed the visitors’ side didn’t have any shade and the benches were getting pretty beat up,” McDowell said. “So I made an awning on the visitors’ side and I redid the benches in front of the concession stand by putting on new boards and repainting them.”
He created the plans himself for both parts of his project. Utilizing skills he learned in Woods and advice from his father, McDowell determined what kind and how many materials he would need to finish the renovations.
